about EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique.

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT for short, is rapidly becoming one of today’s most popular and gentle energetic tools that a practitioner or patient can use in order to release negative emotions. It is very easy to learn, and the patient can carry on using the technique at home to attain gentle and often substantial relief.

In simplest terms, EFT is an emotional form of acupuncture that uses fingertips to stimulate certain meridian points while the client is “tuned in” to his/her problem. Developed by Neurolinguistic Master Practitioner, Gary Craig in 1995, EFT can relieve distress by restoring balance and harmony to the body system. With roots in clinical psychology, applied kinesiology and Traditional Chinese Medicine, EFT combines thought, emotions and self-administered acupressure to successfully resolve psychological disturbances.

How Does EFT work?

No one knows exactly how EFT works. The current theory is that “the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. This in turn will cause negative emotions.” That grandiose statement made by Gary Craig, in translation, means that if you have a distressing memory or thought it may cause a disruption or a short circuit in the body’s energy system, which can lead to all sorts of emotional and physical symptoms, including negative emotions. In effect to continue the analogy throughout this site, that thought sets up a “road block” and prevents the free flow of healing energy throughout the body. Like homeopathy, EFT is another energetic tool to be used to break down that road block and restore the body to balance.

What can EFT help with?

  • Release of negative emotions.
  • Aids relaxation.
  • Aids calmness.
  • Releases stress.
  • Releases fears and phobias.
  • Releases anxieties.
  • Pain relief.
  • clients of all ages.

What can’t EFT treat?

EFT is not for everyone or for everything, although it is perfectly safe to try it out on most symptoms. It won’t work if:

  • The client cannot contact his/her emotions.
  • The client resists “tuning” into his/her problem.

What Happens in one of our EFT sessions?

EFT will be introduced to a client if there appears to be an obstruction to cure through the normal routes of homeopathy. Often it is brought in as part of a homeopathic consultation, whereby our qualified homeopath/EFT practitioner will demonstrate the technique and help the patient practice it, and set the patient some practice homework. This allows the patient to get used to the tapping sequences in the comfort of her own home, so that she feels comfortable with it and open to accessing the emotional obstructions at a later date with our practitioner. In a dedicated EFT session, which lasts approximately 1 hour, our practitioner will

  • Discuss the presenting complaint and its history in depth with the client
  • Refine the nature of the problem
  • Find an opening statement (used to help the patient contact the problem)
  • Take a reading on the SUDs Scale (SUDs = Subjective Units of Disturbance)
(This is a reading on a scale from 10 to 0 where 10 is unbearable and 0 is completely calm and tranquil, and helps monitor the client’s progress.)
  • Guide the client through the tapping sequences until relief is gained.
  • Set the patient some exercises to practice at home.

What can I expect to happen?

Following an EFT session, this technique can leave a client

  • Profoundly insightful.
  • Corrected of emotional and behavioural complexes.
  • With greater self-esteem.
  • With renewed interest and energy.
